In the late-summer hedgerows of my northern home, the bramble weaves her thorned arches, guarding clusters of dark, sun-warmed fruit. In this episode of Flora in Folklore, we wander the forest edge to meet the blackberry ; a plant steeped in Northern European lore as a guardian, healer, and threshold to the otherworld. From the sweet taste of wild berries on a summer walk, to the old charms and herbal remedies recorded in ancient texts, the bramble’s story is one of resilience, magic, and the wild heart of the hedgerow.
