In US news and current events today, this Cambridge, UK hospital put on a wedding for a patient in critical care. 31-year-old Liam Hanrahan is currently in the hospital while he waits for a much-needed heart transplant. He is on a BiVAD, a machine that assists his heart in pumping blood. He was admitted to Royal Papworth Hospital in mid-January.

On Feb 1, Hanrahan and his fiance, Sarah Cousins, got engaged in his hospital room. They said they went ahead with the impromptu hospital wedding since their nurses would’ve been invited to their wedding anyway.

On February 27, the couple had a civil ceremony, which was followed by a blessing in the hospital’s chapel. Guests included the couple’s mothers and Sarah’s 2 sons, hospital staff, and other patients. Local businesses donated a wedding cake, flowers, balloons, food, and snacks.
