This process is useful if you want a more realistic means of flight planning IFR flight plans with the G1000. Even if flying with NAVAIDS, its useful to have a visual reference.
Always use every tool at your disposal.
MSFS simulates the G1000 very well, remember that you can also load/activate standard instrument departures (SID) using the PROC page before taking off.
