Richmond made them; the world heard them. Brandon Roundtree and Alex Howard of Conditions take us from Canal Club nights and storage-unit rehearsals to national tours and records that still hit—Fluorescent Youth and Full of War. We talk writing that’s melodic on record but explosive live, how a real RVA breakout happens, and why the reunion had to be here.

Conditions helped define the late-2000s/early-2010s wave, and this month marks 15 years of Fluorescent Youth. The fanbase endures, streams are in the millions, and the 2025 end of year reunion sold out fast—alongside a new single, “Belong Forever.”

Brandon—father, husband, and core songwriter—brought the intensity of Scarlet into a more melodic, emotion-driven voice. Alex, the melodic engine since day one, now plays bass for Jelly Roll (Grammy-nominated, arena stages worldwide).

Signed to Good Fight Music, Conditions released three LPs and two fan-favorite EPs, lived on the road, did Warped Tour and SXSW, and shared stages with Paramore, New Found Glory, Good Charlotte, and more. Richmond roots. National run. Back where it started.
