Hi everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today, we'll be taking a look at our etrailer Folding and Tilting Cargo Carrier on our 2015 Toyota 4Runner. This is gonna be a 24-by-60-inch long cargo carrier with a 500-pound weight capacity. So if you are worried about ground clearance, which usually on the 4Runner, not gonna be an issue, and you want the cargo carrier that can tilt away with the cargo on there, this might be a good option for you. So we're gonna take a look at some of the features, but focus on how it works with the 4Runner to see if this is gonna be the right fit for you, your cargo, and your adventures. So we have this cooler on here just to see how much space we have.
Note how this is perfect for the width of our cooler. I guess you could also carry it sideways like this. Just remember that when you are loading this up to follow the evenly distributed weight capacity of 500 pounds. We also have a couple straps that we sell here that you could pair with this cargo carrier very easily. The carrier itself is made of steel, which is why you have all of that weight capacity.
You also have some different anchor points here. So rather than dedicated anchor points like hooks, you instead have these walls. So they're open, which allow air to go through as well as the dirt to not accumulate, and then you can just put your hooks or your straps around these bars. On the bottom, you have this mesh floor. So this is also made of steel.
You can see how this is a sturdy mesh. You get a little bit of flex there, but still strong enough, especially when you have your weight evenly distributed on the carrier to hold it up, but still allow dirt and debris to fall through. Let's take a look at some dimensions with this on our 4Runner. So we have a factory hitch on our 4Runner. So the distance added to the back of our vehicle, so it's measured from the bumper to the end of the carrier, it's gonna be about 46 inches.
So you do have a lot of length back there. Whenever you're backing into your garage or trying to park into a really tight spot, please don't forget that you have a cargo carrier behind you. Let's talk about ground clearance dimensions. So measuring from underneath the carrier to the ground, we have that 22 1/2 inches. Plenty of ground clearance there since we do have a 4Runner. Notice how it drops down a little bit over here. So it's 18 inches, and then where our hitch is, it's 17 1/2 inches. So you do have that shank rise. For other vehicles, well, you're concerned about ground clearance. That's what the shank rise is for. For this, this just determines how high you're gonna have to lift your cargo up onto the carrier. Now, how high can you stack your cargo So you can see here as we open up the 4Runner, even without tiling our carrier away, we have plenty of clearance. In fact, for the door to right at the end of the carrier, let's take a quick measurement there. From the bottom of the carrier to the bottom of the door, we have a height of about 24 inches. So plenty of clearance there. So this can tilt away and this can fold up. So you have two pins here, which are gonna help you with that process. First, let's pull this middle pin. So you're gonna take out the clip. Let's just set it right there, then you're gonna have to kind of lift up on the carrier just to give it some, just loosen that up. Then you also have this top pin too. Once you pull that out, you can then drop the carrier to a tilt. So if you have cargo on your carrier that's stacked up more than two feet tall, which is not likely, but still, you have that option of tilting away with the cargo on in order to get full access to your hatch and be able to fully open up your door. And from here, let's go straight up into the folded position. So remember, those two pins are out. You can then lift it up. Notice how we have a stop over there to prevent you from going all the way towards your 4Runner. We're just gonna line this up with that bottom bolt and slide that pin back in. With both pins secured with your clips, you are now in the folded position. So let take some measurements. Length now added to the back of our 4Runner is gonna be from the bumper to the end of the carrier, 19 inches. Big difference compared to when this was folded down. Notice as well the way it sits behind our vehicle. Our rear window is completely vis
