In this clip, Varma talks about the plurality of India, a country that is home to numerous faiths, and he notes that the basic principle on which our nation is constituted is respect for all religions. Varma also mentions the Shah Bano judgement and thinks of it to be a turning point in Indian politics - he argues that after this judgement, a perception emerged that there is a certain kind of appeasement politics at play. Tharoor and Varma also shed light on the importance of secularism in India.
