Jhansi hospital fire: Devastated parents search for answer as blaze claims lives of 10 newborns

Описание: Devastated family members were seen crying uncontrollably outside the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of the state-run Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi Saturday, after 10 newborns died in a fire that broke out in the unit late Friday. Chaos prevailed at the government hospital where as many as 49 newborns had been admitted in the SNCU, of whom 10 were confirmed to have died while one has allegedly gone missing. The other newborns were saved by family members and attendants present at the site along with hospital staff who broke the mesh of the window to rescue them from inside the unit. Hospital administration said the fire started after a spark in an oxygen concentrator which was followed by a blast between 10.30 pm and 10.45 pm. Chilling visuals of charred bodies of newborns being rushed out of the unit emerged from the spot even as parents could be seen attempting to locate their newborns early Saturday.
