In this video, I will explore the commonly used 3 3 2 rhythm that we hear all the time in popular music and trace its origins from Africa to Cuba, to America, and all around the world. Is this the secret to writing pop music? This tresillo rhythm was a mystery to me, but researching the Bo Diddley beat, the Clave (son clave), and the Habanera has led me to the answer that I was looking for. Is this why everyone from Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber to Coldplay, Sia, major Lazer, john legend all use this rhythm?
