During World War II, thousands of Chinese seamen were brought to Liverpool, UK, to serve in the merchant navy. Many met local women and started families. Despite their vital contribution to the British war effort, after the conflict ended, the seamen were denied work and secretly repatriated to China. It would be decades before their families began learning the truth of why their husbands and fathers had vanished.
