The Pumpkin Giant is a classic of fairy tale humor written by Mary E. Wilkins (later Mary E. Freeman) and published in Wide Awake in November of 1882. For the most part, it is more funny than scary. This hilarious tale relates how the great Pumpkin Giant terrorized a kingdom with his glowing Jack-o-Lantern head until an unlikely hero saved the day with a single potato! This is a fun story for Halloween or any time of year.
Though it is not official, we believe the theory that The Great Pumpkin from Charlie Brown may be the spirit of the terrible Pumpkin Giant looking to redeem his mideeds by being kind to children on Halloween.
Please note that this video contains elements which may be considered too scary for small children and humor that may not be appropriate even for some older ones. The story, written a century ago, is not exactly politically correct by modern standards, though not in a mean spirited way. We advise that children not watch this without supervision.
