What is Snowflake?

Snowflake is a cloud data warehouse platform designed to unify data warehousing, data lakes, data engineering, and data science into a single service. It's a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution built on top of cloud infrastructure, offering a scalable and flexible architecture for storing and analyzing large volumes of data.

Snowflake's architecture is based on three core layers:

Cloud Services: Manages all cloud infrastructure, including databases, network, and other services.
Compute: Provides the processing power for querying and analyzing data.
Storage: Stores all data, which can be structured or unstructured.

What is Snowpipe?

Snowpipe is a serverless data ingestion service provided by Snowflake that automatically loads data from cloud storage (like S3, Google Cloud Storage, or Azure Blob Storage) into Snowflake as soon as files are available. It's essentially an automated version of the COPY INTO command, but with the advantage of near real-time data ingestion.

What is time travel in snowflake?

Snowflake Time Travel enables accessing historical data (that is, data that has been changed or deleted) at any point within a defined period.

What is Fail-safe?

Fail-safe provides a 7-day period during which historical data may be recoverable by Snowflake. This period starts immediately after the Time Travel retention period ends. Note, however, that a long-running Time Travel query will delay moving any data and objects (tables, schemas, and databases) in the account into Fail-safe, until the query completes.
