The main difference here involves the ST segment of a cardiac rhythm strip.

–STEMI–
ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction indicates a COMPLETE vessel occlusion which has triggered an MI or heart attack.

–NSTEMI–
(also often referred to as a NON-STEMI) This indicates that there is likely a PARTIAL occlusion. We may also see ST depression or T wave inversion with this type of MI.

🫀For both, cardiac biomarkers and troponin levels will be increased, patients may experience chest pain or pressure, jaw discomfort, upper epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting, or left arm tingling/numbness.

⭐It is important to note that BOTH require immediate action and cardiac protocol, possibly including cardiac catheterization or surgical intervention.
