At Friday's White House Correspondents' Dinner, Wolf Blitzer announced the Wall Street Journal as the winner of the Katherine Graham Award for Courage and Accountability: "The Journal's courageous reporting on President Trump's past relationship with financier Jeffrey Epstein triggered the release of the so-called Epstein files, thousands of documents that might otherwise have remained hidden from the public."

Blitzer then laid out, in detail, exactly what it cost the Journal's reporters to get that story published. Despite Trump's threat of a lawsuit, the paper ran a story about a provocative letter to Epstein bearing Trump's signature. Trump responded by filing a $20 billion lawsuit against the Journal, and in the process, reporter Khadeeja Safdar's home address was revealed, forcing her family to relocate. The Journal was booted off Air Force One. And through all of it, Blitzer noted, the reporters kept filing stories that kept revealing more.

Then seven Wall Street Journal reporters walked on stage to accept the award. Trump stood up and shook every single one of their hands.

The president who tried to bankrupt this newsroom with a $20 billion lawsuit, who exposed a reporter's home address and forced her family out, who had the paper banned from his own plane, stood in a room full of his peers and shook the hands of the journalists who refused to back down.
