In this clip, I reflect on how the courage, sacrifice, and love of our parents shape us in ways we often only recognize in adulthood and on the barakah (blessings) that unfolds when we honor the people who raised us, even imperfectly, and how those blessings ripple through our lives.

Yusuf shares a powerful account of his mother’s life, a story anchored in faith, service, and an unbroken chain of strong women and principled men. Yusuf traces his lineage back to his great-grandparents to reveal the qualities that formed Mama Carmen: generosity, resilience, spiritual devotion, and a lifelong commitment to serving others.
