Hi guys! Join us as we explore Fortezza Medicea in Siena and experience the city’s vibrant weekly market. Every Wednesday from 8 am to 2 pm, the area around the Medici Fortress and La Lizza Park transforms into one of Tuscany’s biggest open-air markets. It’s a true local scene, geared toward residents, not tourists. You’ll find clothing, textiles, fabrics, and household goods here. The market adds a lively layer to an already fascinating visit to the fortress. (There’s also a smaller version every Friday morning in the same spot.)

If you’re in Siena on the third Sunday of the month, don’t miss the Mercatino dell’ Antiquariato, the city’s antiques market. From 9 am to 7 pm, more than 100 exhibitors fill the Market Square with furniture, ceramics, jewelry, artwork and unique collectibles. It’s the perfect place to hunt for meaningful souvenirs and discover something truly original.

About the Fortezza Medicea:
Built in 1563, this massive brick fortress, known as the Fort of Saint Barbara, sits just outside Siena’s historic center near San Prospero and the Artemio Franchi stadium. It features walking and biking paths, panoramic viewpoints, and even an amphitheater. The structure we see today stands on the remains of an earlier Spanish stronghold called the Cittadella. Siena overthrew and destroyed that fortress in 1552, but just a few years later Cosimo I de’ Medici rebuilt it to keep the city firmly under Medici control.
