Now, onto the meat. In case anyone has an issue with the voices, I have created a separate video for the first two episodes without the voices. The dubs of these two episodes feature both human and AI voices. My reasoning for using AI voices is strictly based on the nature of "The Warrior Returns" and the content it provides.
"Who would be sane enough to do this?" is what I thought during the production phases.
And if anyone is curious of why I voiced Minsu, it is because my vocal range fit him the most. Despite having huge issues with his overall character for Season 1, it was a enjoyable experience going through his lines.
To provide context for this, "The Warrior Returns" is a genre deconstruction of the Isekai Genre. It is a series that has garnered attention for its nihilistic story, its themes, and its deconstructive angle. Isekai is a well-known and overly saturated type of media for the past decade.
Like most readers, even I have issues with the series. I see most of Season 1 problematic aside from the first two episodes and the last three due to how good the writing is.
I absolutely like Season 0 for how much the writer has changed his angle. Espically his treatment towards the characters he writes,
For why I did this - I actually tried to do some work and found it hard to start my own stuff. At the time, I was rereading Chapter 18 of "The Warrior Returns" and... was buffled by the writing of that chapter's start.
Let's just say I decided that I would try to make a quality production with all the skills and assets I had on my person. Going under the idea of giving my all to something. I do not regret doing this simply because... it has been a eye-opening journey. I learned more about myself and in several other things.
My goal was to only do the first two episodes and give the highest quality of production that I could feasibly do. It made me feel so many different things all at once that I wanted to go all out and give it my all.
I did not do this for fame nor recognition - I simply just wanted something to do.
I mean, I learned how to do scriptwriting better, created an entire editing style, and thoroughly enjoyed the entire production process. I also 180'd my harsh stance on the writer and he has earned my respect because... this work made me realize that I still got potential to be better after all the stuff I went through.
And it made me appreciate the efforts both the writer and the artist had to go through as they created the series.
The style I created is called [Frame/Panel] System and it is heavily influenced by western comicbooks. Adapting it from the introductory opening cutscene of Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage. To condense what it is, each scene has frames, and each frames has panels.
By the way, these two episode took nearly a year to produce due to production troubles and the incredibly busy job I have in real life as a table cleaner. Most of the production issues were related to scriptwriting, the stress of being a one man guy outside voicing, and having to cut down on a few things.
Just in case, gotta put credits for production stuff. I felt like it wouldn't fit in the credits. I would also like to thank my friend for joining me in on this.
