Up in the mountains behind the city of Baracoa sits Cueva el Paraiso - also known as Paradise Cave. This cave is more than just a cave however, instead it is the location of an ancient burial grounds for the Taino people of the Caribbean.
We had the opportunity to explore these stunning caves and archeological site during our stay in Baracoa. As you make your way through this site, you won't have any plaques to read, so be sure to listen closely to the guide who will welcome you (after taking your payment).
The guide will give you some background information on the Taino people, their time in Cuba, and specifically Baracoa, and why they chose this cave as a final resting area.
