STORYLINE:
An Israeli strike hit a car in west Gaza City, outside the designated “yellow line,” killing Ra’ed Sa’d, whom Israel identified as the head of Hamas’s reinforcement headquarters, according to a joint statement by the Israeli prime minister’s office and the defense ministry.

At least three other people were killed and three wounded in the strike, Gaza health officials said.

The statement said the strike was carried out in response to a Hamas improvised explosive device that wounded Israeli forces earlier on Saturday in the Yellow Zone of the Gaza Strip.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz ordered the killing of Sa’d “to thwart further attacks,” it said.

Israel said Sa’d was “one of the architects” of the Oct. 7 attack, led by Hamas and was involved in efforts to rebuild the group’s military capabilities.

At Shifa Hospital, an Associated Press journalist saw the blood-stained bodies and wounded victims brought into the emergency ward as medics rushed to treat them.

The Gaza Health Ministry said that since the ceasefire went into effect on Oct. 11, at least 386 people have been killed and 1,018 wounded.

The ministry said the overall Palestinian death toll from the Israel-Hamas war has risen to at least 70,654, with 171,095 wounded.
