Cash rules everything around us… and if you’re a business owner, you need to know where your cash it is actually going.
In 3 minutes, I walk you through cash flow analysis using the following three main categories for proper cash flow tracking used by CEO's, CFO's, investors, and savvy business owners:
1) Operating Cash Flow (OCF):
The cash your business generates (or burns) from day-to-day operations.
2) Investing Cash Flow:
Cash used for (or generated from) long-term investments—equipment, property, software, acquisitions, etc.
3) Financing Cash Flow:
Cash coming in or going out from how you fund the business—loans, lines of credit, owner contributions/distributions, investor capital.
Why this matters:
Two businesses can show the same profit… and have completely different cash positions. Tracking cash flow by category helps you answer the real questions:
Is the core business producing cash—or relying on debt?
Are you investing strategically — or patching holes?
Is your financing structure helping you scale—or quietly squeezing you?
If you want more practical CFO-style finance breakdowns for business owners, subscribe and stick around.
Drop a comment: What’s harder for you—cash flow tracking or cash flow forecasting?
