Implementing a Digital Zettelkasten using Block References in Roam Research with Beau Haan

Описание: Beau uses block refs in a highly effective way that I genuinely have not considered before, so his database is VERY navigationally friendly when he’s trying to reuse his notes. I’m really excited to share it.

Usually these tours are cool but don’t show me anything I’m too surprised by. This one was surprising! His style works w/ different mental models than mine, which are more query than structured navigation driven. His tour adds something novel to effective Roam usage discussion.

Ultimately, I disagree with some of his decisions particularly around the distinction between block and page references (for example... when he's block referencing bullet points from his permanent notes page, why not just change it into "text + alias" so you capture the block and page level connections? That would enable many more workflows.

However, because he's focused so heavily on using block over page references, he's also pushed the limits of block references, showing more utility than I was previously aware of. This will change the way I use block refs in some ways!
