Kenyan President William Ruto has approached China to gain support for the BRICS membership. Li Xi, a top Chinese official concluded an official visit to Kenya on Tuesday. During the bilateral talks in Nairobi, President Ruto requested China’s backing for Kenya’s bid to join BRICS. The group was established to bring together the world's most important developing countries with an aim to challenge the political and economic power of the West. As more countries are considering joining BRICS, experts in Kenya have been urging the Ruto government to follow suit for economic and trade benefits. African nations are seeking alternatives to reduce dependency on lenders like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.
