My favorite trail system in Colorado is the High Line Canal Trail. Located in general in the Denver area. It stretches for 71 miles and goes through several different habitats and ecosystems. The canal was built more than a century ago and is lined with enormous cottonwood trees that were planted during the construction. Since most are getting their water from underground pipes these days the canal doesn't have water running regularly since 2016. It does have water running through it occasionally during the spring and summer mainly to water the trees and after heavy rains in the area. The canal and trail are still maintained by Denver Water.
