"I have long photographed clotheslines, with and without clothes. So these clotheslines in our backyard, coated in snow, strongly appealed to me. In keeping with a lifelong interest of mine, I wanted the still life of the clotheslines connected to the distant landscape. Adding appeal to this scene was the strength of the horizontal fence, the open gate, and the solitary Katsura tree. What makes the picture mine, however, is the monochromatic palette of a full-color photograph."
