Landscape Interface Studio, Kingston University and Arup’s Landscape Architecture team collaborated on an innovative shared project, ‘Cities Alive Workshop’, devised to trial interdisciplinary graduate and practitioner outdoor learning in the context of ARUP Cities Alive: Rethinking Green Infrastructure research report, undertaken by the ARUP Foresight Group.
Here students and staff from Kingston University plus members of the Landscape Architecture team at Arup discuss the importance of green infrastructure in relation to the development of cities and urban design plus the importance of the inclusion of green infrastructure to urban design proposals. The workshop group was introduced to the Cities Alive report by joint author Tom Armour, Leader, Global Landscape Architecture, Arup. Tom set out the case for using green-infrastructure in city planning and design; and the social, environmental and economic benefits. He discussed strategies for designers using case studies highlighted in the Cities Alive report.
