The third and final day of the Giltrap Group Taupō Historic GP is in the books, bringing an unforgettable weekend of racing to a close.
The Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Trophy once again set the tone on Sunday morning, with Australian Jack Taylor mastering the damp conditions to become yet another new Pole Sitter. From there, the racing only intensified, as Kiwi Zack Scoular delivered a commanding drive to win Race 3 of the weekend. The finale belonged to Ryan Wood, who capped things off with a lights-to-flag victory in the Denny Hulme Memorial Trophy Race, securing his second win of the weekend and completing an Australasian lockout across all four races.
The Formula Atlantic / Formula Racing action continued to deliver, with Toby McCormack claiming victory in the morning encounter. Later in the day, reigning Historic GP Champion Kaleb Ngatoa rose to the occasion, producing a daring drive to go back-to-back and secure the Taupō Historic GP crown for the second time.
In the HVRA Saloons, Oliver Sentch was untouchable, winning both races aboard his Ford Escort Mk1.
Arrow Wheels Heritage Touring Cars NZ also saw a dominant performance from Mark Mallard, who was unbeaten across the weekend in his BF Ford Falcon.
Euro Allcomers rounded out the competitive action, where Nick Cutfield delivered a standout drive in his Porsche 991 to top the class across the weekend.
Adding to the spectacle, the iconic Giltrap Group Motorsport A1GP car “Black Beauty” returned to the circuit, delighting fans not only with demonstration laps but also a few burnouts to finish its appearance in style.
A huge thank you to everyone who made this weekend possible — the organisers, officials, volunteers, drivers, teams, and of course the fans for your incredible support. Us Kiwis certainly love our historic racing, and we’re already counting down the days to next year’s Taupō Historic GP.
And don’t worry, the Repco NextGen NZ Championship isn’t gone for long, with the Summer Series back in action next weekend as the circus heads south to Teretonga Park for the Ascot Park Hotel Teretonga Park International!
