My name is John Borgerding, I work for Knife River Construction. Been with the company about six years now. This is a 2018 Ford F-550. I guess we could characterize this as a specialty piece of equipment. This is for a mechanic. He's got the air compressor, he's got the crane, he's got the welder, the torches, everything. This is as close as you're going to get to a mobile shop.

Being a mechanic myself, we're all hoarders and packrats. If we think we're going to need it, we've got it on the truck. And I'm constantly on these guys to make sure they're rolling across the scales every now and then to make sure they're not overweight because we have to adhere to the federal highway laws that this truck is rated at nineteen five GVW. So I'm always on them to make sure once a week you're rolling across the scales because it never fails.

We'll go out to a job they think oh I'm gonna need this chunk of plate because I need to put something on a motor grader, or I need these teeth and to put them on the backhoe or the excavator... and before you know it, you got a load of stuff and you're 20,000 pounds over weight. That can cause a lot of problems. So we're trying to be safe at what we do, but we're trying to also make sure we have everything we need to go do our job and get the equipment. That's the name of the game.

This truck exists because we have to get out there to our fleet and get it back up and going in a timely fashion. We have bigger trucks. This truck fits our needs here. It's small, it gets around quick. Probably doesn't carry as much as some of the bigger trucks. He really watches the paving spreads, and and every once a while we'll get out to some of the dirt crews. But this truck is built basically for a paving spread. He's watching a picking machine, a shuttle buggy, the paver, and the rollers, so he doesn't really need a whole lot. But, he needs to be small enough that he can get around the job. And its functionality of this fits that style of work.
