Hey, neighbors, Kevin here with etrailer. And today we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the MORryde suspension upgrade kit with 2 1/4 inch shackle straps here on our 2022 Grand Design Imagine XLS travel trailer. The main reason that our neighbor was in today was to get his equalizer replaced with a cushioned one, which we've already switched over to the MORryde CRE 3000. At that point, you're pretty much taking out most of the hardware anyway, so you might as well switch over to some wet bolts and MORryde thicker shackle straps just so that your suspension is running nice and smooth for the life of the trailer. So, in my hand, I have the factory bushing. This is a nylon one, which pretty easy, doesn't really require any maintenance, but over time, these do end up wearing out.

And what happens is as this starts to wear out, it will, or typically what happens is it'll kind of heat up as you're putting a lot of pressure back and forth and then it starts to melt into that shackle or into the hole that we have right here for our leaf spring. And when it starts to do that, well, then now we have more space in that hole. And what happens is the bolt is now going to start moving around inside of there, and that's where we start widening out the hole in our shackle strap. So, when that happens, we have a whole bunch of play. Typically, you can come up and kind of grab the shackle and get a whole bunch of play in that and it's making a bunch of noise, and that's really bad because then we have too much travel within our suspension, and eventually something's gonna bind up and it's gonna catch and break.

And most likely, that'll be your leaf spring. So, if one of those down, you're not gonna be driving anywhere. When we switch over to our bronze bushing, now this does require a little bit of maintenance, which is why we're switched over to a wet bolt so that we can actually lubricate it, which you're gonna need to do regularly. But this is going to last you a lifetime as long as you take care of it. And it's not gonna sit there and kind of disintegrate and weld itself up to the hole in our leaf spring.

With your factory shackle strap still in place, you can just measure from center to center on those bolts. If we look at that, we're getting a 2 1/4 inch measurement. That's pretty typical. Other than that, you're gonna have a 3 1/8 usually. If we take a closer look at our factory bolt, you can see those splines, and what those do is they bite into our hanger.

So, when you're swapping out the hanger bolt on the center for our equalizer and on our outer ones, you wanna make sure that you're being very careful. You don't want this spinning as you hammer it in or out. And we don't want it spinning at all once we have it installed. If you are seeing it has room, then we need to swap out your hanger and get that fixed because this needs to bite in it and move only with that bushing. We don't want the bolt sliding around 'cause then we have two pieces that are gonna be moving against each other, and then that's where we start to have more issues. You are gonna start seeing more play. Eventually, this will wear through your hanger too. So, that metal's not gonna hold up if you sit there and let it run and kind of wiggle around. As far as installation goes with these wet bolts, it's gonna be really simple on our shackle straps because we're just sliding that in, throwing the back strap on, and then tightening down our flange nut. We do wanna make sure on our hanger bolts that when we're sliding that in, we wanna make sure that that grease hole is facing upwards 'cause MORryde has said that it does a better job of evenly distributing that grease. As we hammer it in, we're gonna use a sacrificial socket. So, I have a 9/16 socket that I've just kind of beat up over the years. What that does is I can set it over the bolthead without contacting the greaser fitting, and then I can hammer it fully in. Now, once I have it fully in, I do wanna stick a wrench on there, make sure it's not spinning at all as they tighten down that flange on the backside. If we do have any kind of movement in there, it's gonna end up tearing u
