The Battlefield Hardline single player campaign structures itself as an in-universe television police drama, with individual levels being referred to as “Episodes'' and having interludes between levels. The single player campaign features many elements from past installments, taking place in numerous locations across the world such as Los Angeles, California and its surrounding deserts.

The main campaign allows us to embody Nicholas Mendoza, a rookie in the Miami Vice Squad. In the first mission Mendoza, the newest addition to Miami's Vice squad, is performing a raid against drugs dealers at a Miami hotel with his new partner Detective Stoddard. The two officers locate the apartment where a drug deal is occurring and breach it, finding a group of
four armed men at a table. The men surrender to Mendoza and Stoddard, and Mendoza proceeds to arrest two of the criminals at the table while Stoddard keeps his weapon trained on the others.

Later, Mendoza teamed up with Khai Minh Dao to investigate cocaine trafficking.
