January 2019 — Bill Cash Park, Cannon Hill, Brisbane.
I was new in Brisbane back then. With time on my hands and nowhere in particular to be, I found myself looking at the sky more often.
Since childhood, I’d been fascinated by flight — helicopters, aerial views, the idea of seeing the world from above and capturing what others couldn’t.
When drone technology became accessible, I knew I couldn’t let that moment pass. I bought a small drone — around $100, ordered from a Chinese app (Temu or something similar, I honestly don’t remember). It wasn’t fancy, but it was freedom.
This footage is one of the very first things I ever captured.
The irony? I lost the drone just two days later.
It hurt. A lot.
But that’s life — sometimes the things that introduce us to our passion stay only long enough to light the spark… and then they disappear.
This was the beginning.
