Economy Update: Employment is Strong but the US is Still Fighting Inflation | EWTN News Nightly

Описание: The latest economic numbers are in. Even though employment is strong, inflation is still high. Republicans and Democrats see the state of the economy differently. Both sides are digging in for what is expected to be long, drawn out fights over budget priorities and raising the debt limit. President Joe Biden released his nearly $7 trillion budget last week, but it's a plan that must be approved by Congress. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer says Republicans have yet to put their plan on the table. Senator Schumer says, "If Republicans can't reach their goals without forcing severe cuts down Americans' throats, then what exactly are they planning to do. To date, Republicans have refused to talk straight with the American people about budget cuts." Some House Republicans are demanding budget cuts or they will block a debt limit increase which the Treasury Department says has to be done by mid-June or the country could default. Speaker Kevin McCarthy says, "When I hear Chuck Schumer say raise the debt limit, just raise it clean and don't do anything else, he's wrong. The president's position not to negotiate, that's wrong. It's not wrong from a Republican point of view, it's wrong from an American point of view." Congresswoman Debbie Lesko agrees. She says the president's budget will not reduce the deficit but will stifle growth and hurt American families. Capitol Hill Correspondent, Erik Rosales reports.
