Описание: The Spanish had maintained footholds on the Moroccan coast from the time of Columbus, but only attempted to assert control over the interior at the end of the 19th century. In this episode we examine the beginning of the modern involvement of the Spanish in Morocco, the land and its people, and the early clashes between the Spanish and their formidable antagonists here. This episode focuses on the period up to 1921, when the crucial campaign ending in the disaster at Annual transformed the situation radically. The campaigns leading up to this pivotal moment form the backdrop for the coming struggle usually known as the Rif War, and the career of kernel of the new Spanish Army in Africa, the newly-raised Tercio de Extranjeros, or Spanish Foreign Legion.
