My first time as ground crew helping the owner start it and then install the airframe onto himself lol
It's heavy on the rear, which is why the front landing gear is retracted during startup, because when the plane is level, it will tip over backwards, which is not a good thing for the propeller.
So once the engine is running, he lifts the nose, cranks the landing gear down, and then one of us has to hold the front of the plane down until he gets in.
It's a weird and cool awesome plane!
I think I saw it flying overhead when I was a kid back in the Napa Valley, it was built in Santa Rosa, about 10 minutes away from where I grew up, and we had an airport popular for people to fly to for touch and go's or just to get away from the busy parts of the Bay Area, and I remember seeing a couple of these flying over, and learning about Burt Rutan and composites, and that kind of got me interested in such things.
Now I am working with helicopters, and this guy is next to our hanger and so sometimes I take lunch and help him when we are at the hanger.
