This video captures the soothing sound of rain falling on onggi jars placed on a jangdokdae—a traditional Korean platform used for fermenting and storing foods such as soy sauce, soybean paste, and chili paste.
These onggi jars vary in size, and because they are made from breathable earthenware with countless microscopic pores, they create a gentle and natural resonance when touched by raindrops—distinct from the sound produced by metal or ordinary ceramics.
The sound also changes depending on how full each jar is:
•A filled jar produces a deep and heavy tone,
•while an empty jar gives off a clear and light resonance.
These different tones blend together to form the rich, calm harmony of jangdokdae rain sounds, unique to this traditional Korean setting.
This video was created to help promote deep sleep, relaxation, and stress relief.
To preserve the most natural ambience possible, I personally planned, filmed, and edited every part of the production.
