Juan Bisquert obtained an MSc in physics in 1985 and a PhD in 1992, both from the Universitat de València, Spain. He worked in the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, Albacete, from 1987 to 1992, and is a professor of applied physics at Universitat Jaume I de Castelló. At UJI he is the director of the Institute of Advanced Materials, that develops research activity on materials, nanostructures and devices for production and efficient use of clean energies. He published 320 papers in research journals, and a reference book, Nanostructured Energy Devices. He has 14000 citations and h-index 75.
He is a Senior Editor of the Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters and member of the editorial board of Energy and Environmental Science, ChemElectroChem and the South Korean Journal of Electrochemical Science and Technology.
He has been distinguished in the 2014, 2015 and 2016 list of ISI Highly Cited Researchers. He cooperates with research project management with King Abdulaziz University and King Saud University of Saudi Arabia.
The research work is in perovskite solar cells, nanostructured solar cells (including dye-sensitized solar cells, organic solar cells, quantum-dot sensitized solar cells), water splitting with visible light and semiconductors (solar fuel production), and lithium battery. Bisquert’s most well known work is about mechanisms governing the operation of nanostructured and solution processed thin film solar cells. He has developed significant insights in the electronic processes in hybrid organic-inorganic solar cells, combining novel theory of semiconductor nanostructures, photoelectrochemistry, and systematic experimental demonstration. His contributions produced a broad range of concepts and characterization methods to analyze the operation of photovoltaic and optoelectronic devices in general, in a highly interdisciplinary strategy. The research interests also include related systems such as organic LEDs, and bioelectronics/biofuels.
Juan Bisquert has been invited and keynote speaker in more than 50 talks, and he is a regular conference organizer. He serves as referee for numerous scientific journals and as project referee and advisor for 15 national and private funding agencies of many countries.

About #SoftMatterLab:
We are a laboratory devoted to the study of soft matter systems working at the Instituto de Investigaciones Fisicoquímicas y Aplicadas (INIFTA) in the Department of Chemistry of the Universidad Nacional de La Plata (UNLP). Our approach is multidisciplinary, involving concepts and expertise from chemistry, physics, biomedical engineering, and materials science. We pursue the goal of understanding the relationship between molecular structure, molecular function and macroscopic properties. In this context, we are particularly interested in designing and building soft materials and devices with unprecedented properties and functions. The research projects on which we are presently working involve the integration of functional molecular systems into devices and platforms for different specific purposes. The devices of current interest are solid-state nanopores, graphene-based field-effect transistors and bioelectrochemical sensors.
