(2 Dec 1964) Pope Paul VI arrives in Beirut en route to India. The longest journey undertaken by a Pope in the twenty centuries of Christianity, the Pope left Rome just before dawn, landing for a half hour refuelling stop in Beirut at 06:22 GMT, just over an hour and a half later. He's greeted at the airport by Lebanese President Charles Alexandre Helou.
