I flew from London to Marrakesh to ask a question to the Moroccans, do they identify themselves as Arabs or as Africans?
Sitting in the north of Africa they are an African nation, however linguistically they are also Arabs. So which side do they lean more towards within their identity, one or both? The streets were buzzing for AFCON whilst we were here full of other types of Africans also, we made sure we asked them how they view Morrocans too.
An enlightening experience to speak to different generations of the nation, some may be Berbers/Amazigh some may be Arabs but they are all most definitely Moroccan!
