Today on this 2013 Ford C-Max, were going to install part number BX8870. This is the Blue Ox Kargard Towed Vehicle Protector. Now one thing to know about this install, were going to install this on a Blue Ox tow bar; this is the Aventa Tow Bar. First off were going to go ahead and install the brackets on top the tow bar itself, its called the tower base. Well go ahead and remove the original bolt thats in the tow bar, install a tower base on top, then well install the new bolt and nut in its place. Were going to snug them down but not tighten them down for good.

Next well go ahead and install the tower and well put it into place. Then well install two sets of tower clamps and also the L-brackets. Now the way to install these L-brackets, you want the L-shape one to be on the bottom and the inverse L would be on top. Well put them loosely together and slide them on the post. Now for the upper bracket well snug it down just enough to hold it in place.

When were done with one side lets go ahead and repeat the same process on the other side. Once we have both towers installed, well go ahead and take the car guard, unfold it, and well install the locking rod. Now well go ahead and install it on the towers. Well go head and line up with the holes and then set it into place. Now all these parts are loose so were going to have to set them in place and do some adjustments until we get it the way we want it.

Were going to start with the upper brackets first, make sure theyre even, set the car guard on top of that, and then raise the bottom L-brackets up to the frame on the car guard. Once we have everything setting the way we want it, well go ahead and tighten down all the bolts. Its a good idea to take this off and reinstall it to test it, to make some final adjustments to make it easy to install. Now it does seem like a good idea to have a little bit of tension on it when you put it together to keep it from rattling around.
