Students leapt from the windows of buildings and barricaded doors to evade the gunman, who opened fire after arriving on campus.

Police shot and apprehended the suspected shooter, who is believed to have been studying at Perm university.

The attack comes months after nine people were killed in a school shooting in the Russian city of Kazan.
