This is my third time out on the RD1 Elite Go-kart here at Al Ain Raceway. The video shows an interesting comparison to the GX-390 around the International Circuit.
The RD1 karts is an amazing machine with a 24 BHP 2 stroke Rotax engine which will scare you into most of the corners. (especially for a new comer to the RD1). The steering is so precise that it is very easy to position the kart exactly where you want it. The brakes are very good but very easy to lock up when pushing the kart deep into the corners.
Cornering speeds are very similar to that of the GX390 due to the same tires being used on both karts, but the power, acceleration and speed makes up the 5 to 6 seconds per lap compared to the GX390.
This is definitely NOT a go-kart for a beginner driver and a lot of consistent laps in the GX390 is recommended before attempting this beast!
There is still a lot of places on the track where I can make up some more time, but this kart makes you work hard for it and with more speed comes more strain and stress on the body :-) Seeing it was only my third session out on the track with the RD1, I think it wasn't too bad.
