Lee Ainslie discovered interest in investing at a young age when he was asked to create a computer program for a high school investment club. After high school, Lee attended the University of Virginia and graduated with an engineering degree. He joined an accounting firm upon graduation, working as a small business consultant until he left to pursue an MBA at the University of North Carolina. It was here that he first came into contact with Julian Robertson, who was the head of Tiger Management at the time and a UNC board member. Lee joined Tiger Management as the fifth or sixth investment professional, and by the time he left to found his own long/short equity hedge fund, Maverick Capital, he was running the Technology effort. Lee is actively involved in the Robin Hood Foundation, a charity that aims to solve poverty in the New York metropolitan area.
