The Govt is offering a number of subsidies for people to set up this one business…
It’s a unit to make Banana Fibre, which is seeing a huge demand in US, Canada and Europe.
In fact, Japan’s currency is made from banana fibre.
India is the largest producer of Bananas in the world with over 26% of the world’s production coming from India…
However, the stem of the banana tree goes to waste…
And with Western consumers preferring eco-friendly apparel… banana fibre is all the rage.
Gujarat seems to be the best location to start this unit because over 16% of the country’s production of the fruit comes from the state and they have a ready infrastructure for textile production.
Cities like Anand, Surat, Baroda, Bharuch, Narmada and Kheda would be perfect to start this with low logistics cost for raw material access and then taking it to mills for turning it into yarn and fabric.
Incentives by the govt include:
5-7% interest rate subsidy to MSMEs
capital investment subsidy from Rs 10 to 35 lakhs
The Gujarat Govt has uploaded an entire project plan with machines required, manpower… cost of set up and analysis of breakeven and payback all in a document that I’ll link below.
