In this video, I’m running my Marshall DSL100 head through a Marshall Origin 4x12A cabinet, paired with a Strat-style SSH guitar and an HX Stomp in a full 4-cable method setup.
Signal Chain:
Guitar → HX Stomp (Compressor + Digital Tube Screamer) → HX Send → Amp Input
Amp FX Send → HX Return (Modulation + Reverb) → HX Output → Amp FX Return
This setup gives me the best of both worlds — authentic Marshall tube tone with flexible digital routing and effects. The HX Stomp’s FX Loop makes it super easy to route the preamp and post-amp effects exactly where they belong.
Here’s the cool part: I don’t even need to channel-switch on the amp. By simply disabling the HX FX Loop (and the virtual Tube Screamer), the signal jumps straight to the power section of the DSL100, completely bypassing the preamp for a gorgeous, clean, full-range sound.
I’m currently using the Ultra Gain OD1 channel for that classic Marshall crunch — tight, articulate, and harmonically rich — but I can’t wait to explore some of the cleaner drive tones this amp has to offer. Compared to my old JCM900, this rig is way more flexible and easy to integrate with modern pedalboard setups.
Honestly… this thing sounds incredible. I might need to calm down a bit — but this is exactly why I love experimenting with hybrid analog/digital rigs. 🤘
