I wanted to put this train together to feature my recently acquired 6460–25 Lionel crane car. This car would have been featured in set number 1523 which was pulled by the seaboard NW2 diesel engine. While I didn’t have the exact cars from the 1954 set, I did have some reasonable replacements so I could pull together a rough approximation.
My references indicate that most of the crane cars from that year would have had a black cab, and it may be that the red cab version was only included in set 1523.
