The car, which we supplied to the previous owner 2 years ago, has now done just over 88,650 miles. This is a beautiful example of this large family saloon and drives exceptionally well. In the 164 Volvo fitted the 3.0 straight 6 petrol engine that in this case was matched to a 4 speed manual gearbox. When Volvo introduced the car in 1968 it was marketed as the more prestigious development of their Volvo 144 model. In this car the original spec included the soft grey leather and to sit on the seats is like relaxing in your sofa at home, they are just so comfortable. Being a Volvo, the car is very functional and not fitted with lots of unnecessary gadgets and, as you would expect, has been very reliable for the previous owner during their ownership.

When introduced the 164 had a unique front styling, the bonnet was longer to make room for the larger engine and the shape of the front also gave the impression of greater prestige owing to its much large grille. The cars production only ran for a relatively short period and was ceased in 1975, a check on What’s Left today suggests there are only 4 licenced and 1 SORN 1969 Volvo 164 left today making this a both a rare and unusual car.
