The incredible Firebird Trans-Am race car, owned and raced by Roger Bolliger. It started as a pretty rare 1971 455 H.O. Firebird and was then modified into a very serious race car with Jerry Titus' 1970 Trans-Am in mind.
Powered by a (for us Europeans) massive 8.1L Pontiac 496 big block built by Butler Performance. The all-aluminium engine produces 730 horsepower and 860Nm (634 ft lbs) of torque on pump gas. Although the Zandvoort straight is not that long, the car is said to be capable of reaching top speeds nearing 310kph (190mph). With the big arches housing even bigger slicks, the car handles well too, as has often been demonstrated when Roger takes the Trans-Am to hillclimb events.
Filmed at the Zandvoort Summer Trophy, taking part in Colmore YTCC races. Unfortunately a significant portion of the event was plagued by bad weather so I didn't quite get as much footage as I wanted and some of it is at times a little shakey. Regardless, I hope you'll enjoy the video and thanks for watching!
