This is the first of five hyungs that were developed by Anko Itosu (Mr Idos). The five hyung were broken down from an original hyung called Jae Nam. In around about 1875 Mr Itosu (Idos) created these five hyung as he felt the original was too difficult to teach to younger students.
Pyung represents being in Balance (mentally and physically), having a sense of calmness and peacefulness.
Ahn represents having a feeling of Safety, Security and confidence.
The Pyung Ahn Hyung are symbolised by the turtle.
