Описание: Childhood dementia takes so much from kids like Noah. It's caused by over 70 genetic conditions that have attracted little research, attention or action. Childhood dementia is progressive. The brain is damaged more and more. Children progressively lose skills they’ve already developed such as the ability to write, read, learn, talk, walk and play. Their brains also lose the ability to keep the body functioning properly and, eventually, to keep the body alive. Most children with dementia sadly die before they reach adulthood.
Childhood dementia is sometimes referred to as 'childhood Alzheimer's'. The signs and symptoms are similar to Alzheimer's disease, and so this name is used to help people quickly understand the challenges kids with dementia can face. While ‘Alzheimer’s’ and ‘dementia’ are often colloquially used interchangeably, many people don’t know that Alzheimer’s disease is actually a specific disease and the most common cause of dementia in adults. There are over 70 genetic conditions that cause dementia in childhood.

Childhood Dementia Initiative is a for-purpose organisation established in 2020 to transform research, care and policy responses for all children with dementia so that they may live long and fulfilling lives.
