9 reasons to add dog friendly vegetables to your dogs meals.

No 1 is that vegetables provide a range of nutrients such as proteins, fats, carbohydrates, lipids and fiber, making them a complete food. Although a dog could not thrive on vegetables alone as they need a better balance of amino acids, provided by meats.

No2 is that green vegetables are full of minerals such as calcium, potassium and magnesium.

No 3, vegetables provide many natural vitamins such as most B vitamins, vitamin A, C, E and K.

No 4 is that vegetables are full of water to help hydrate a kibble fed dog as they're constantly dehydrated due to the lack of moisture in kibble. Kibble has 12% moisture content while vegetables are 85% moisture content.

No 5, vegetables are full of phytonutrients including enzymes critical to kibble fed dogs who get none in their diet.

Phytonutrients are also antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial, anti-aging and anti-cancer but kibble fed dogs get none of these nutrients in their diet. Vegetables are full of digestive enzymes to help smooth digestion and they're anti aging.

No 6 Vegetables are full of soluble fiber that gets digested by microbes in the large bowel while the insoluble fiber cleans the gut wall as it passes through helping your dog to extract more nutrition from their food.

No 7 vegetables help alkalize your dogs body which is important to your dogs liver, pancreas, kidneys, hormone production and heart.

No 8 Dogs can eat vegetables. Dogs are generalized carnivores which means they have evolved to eat mostly meat and bone, however they can eat vegetables and fruit for extra nutrition.

You can also include various edible herbs for many dog health benefits.

Vegetables I recommend you don't give to your dog include:
Onions
Unsprouted legumes
Avocados
Macadamias
White potatoes
Any grains unless sprouted
Also be careful of fruit stones and keep fruit well ripened before feeding so as not to cause digestive upset.

You can feed your dog vegetables at 10% of the diet total and when preparing vegetables for your dog, you can part boil or steam them and then crush or blend them to break open the cells for easy digestion.

If your dog doesn’t eat a home cooked or raw food diet, they can still benefit from vegetables in their diet, especially dogs on a kibble diet.
