This organic farmers' market opens every Sunday from 11:00 to 17:00 in the Central District in Hong Kong (Star Ferry Pier). There are only about 10 stalls, selling organic vegetables grown locally. Although small, it is a very vibrant organic farmers' market. These are what I can observe in the market:
1. The stall holders are the farmers themselves. They are friendly and are happy to answer customers' questions on their vegetables. In the regular vegetable markets in Hong Kong that I have visited. The stall holders are usually not very friendly and they could not provide much information on the vegetables that they are selling.
2. Most customers have their own shopping bags. The stalls do not provide plastic bags.
3. The vegetables sold there are not so "good-lookong" and are not of uniform size and uniform colour. Think of the tomatoes you see in a supermarket, they are usually of amazingly uniform size and colour, which is a bit unnatural. I remember what my mother-in-law, who is a farmer, told me:"If a fruit looks perfect, do not eat it."
4. Although there are only about 10 stalls, quite of lot of varieties of vegetables are sold there, some are hardly seen in a regular vegetable market.
