March 2016 Wilderness First Aid class for a group of Boy Scout leaders. This is a training scenario in which a simulated "patient" (one of the students) has fallen from a wall while rock climbing. His injuries included a head injury, a injury to his lower spine, and a fractured left humerus (upper arm). The "patient" deserves an award for his acting.
Yes, there are some assessments and treatments that were overlooked or delayed by the students. The scenario was debriefed afterwards. The previous medical training and experience of most of the students was basic first aid and CPR and this was their first time venturing into the world of wilderness first aid and self-rescue.
I am sure each one of them will be very capable of caring for their Scouts and fellow Scout leaders out on the trail.
